Tenganan Pegringsingan

In several articles that I have written specifically about Bali, it is often said that Bali is not just about the charm and beauty of the beach.

However, all tourism themes are presented beautifully in Bali. including cultural tourism destinations located in Tenganan Village, Karangasem Regency, and Bali.

a village that, despite changing times and rapid technological developments, has maintained the preservation of culture since the days of the ancestors.

Cultural preservation can be seen in the architecture of the building, its location determination, or its layout, as well as in the daily traditions of the people of Tenganan Village.

The people of Tenganan Village are believed to be one of the Balinese Aga communities. Specifically, the Bali community or indigenous people.

Tenganan Pegrisingan is a natural tourist spot in Karangasem, which is very close to the east, or the island of the gods. This park has a unique village and many things that attract visitors to come again and again.

This village is a village that strongly maintains its ancestral culture or heritage. There are so many people who want to live in the midst of identity and stay awake to modernization.

For travelers who like cultural tourism destinations, Tenganan Pegringsingan is a recommended location to visit.

Gringsing Cloth Craft Village

The woven cloth made by the villagers is called Gringsing cloth. Therefore, this traditional village is also called the Pegringsingan village of Bali.

This village's inhabitants have long been known for their skill in weaving Gringsing cloth. The Gringsing fabric is made using the double tie technique. This technique is the only one in Indonesia, so the Gringsing cloth made by the local community is very well known throughout the world.

Pandan War in Tenganan Karangasem Village

The villagers have a very unique tradition and are the main attraction for Tenganan Pegringsingan tourism. Every year between June and July, the Mekare-kare/Mageret Pandan (Pandan War) tradition is held. The ritual entails a pair of village youths on stage cutting each other with thorns from pandan leaves. As a result of the incision of the pandan leaf thorns, it will cause injuries to the village youth's back.

After the pandanus war is over, the wound will be treated with traditional antiseptic medicine made from tubers. When smeared with medicine, the youth's back would feel very sore. The wound will dry and heal within a few days. This tradition is carried out to train the villagers mentally and physically. There will be many photographers covering the pandanus war event in mid-July.

Mekare-kare is the culmination of the Tenganan Pengringsingan village ceremonial procession. The local community of the village calls the village ceremony Usaba Sambah. The Usaba Sambah ceremony has a duration of 1 month, and the pandan war is usually held 2–4 times.

Pandan War/Mekare-Kare Schedule

For the pandan war schedule in Tenganan Pegringsingan village for 2020, I don't know the exact date at this time because the determination of the pandan war schedule does not use the Christian calendar but uses the local community's calendar. Usually the pandan war schedule in Pegringsingan village is held in June or July. Last year, Mekare-Kare was held on June 25, 2019 from 14:00–17:00.
