SERAYA

Seraya village is located about 10 km from downtown Amlapura; traveling from Denpasar is approximately 2.5 hours by car after passing through the Taman Ujung Karangasem tourist attraction. Seraya village itself is located in the highlands, where the geographical condition of the land tends to be barren and dry during the dry season, so conditions like this are less favorable for farmers as well.

Gebug Ende has been a Seraya Village tradition for generations.
This Gebug Ende ritual begins with praying with various offerings, which will be followed by a dexterity competition between two men. The two men will attack each other by carrying a rattan stick with a length of 1.5 to 2 meters, which will be used to hit the opponent, and a round rattan shield to ward off attacks from the opponent.

The name Gebug Ende itself has a meaning, namely Gebug, which means to beat or hit the opponent, and Ende, which means shield.

The history of Gebug Ende Seraya is that, in the era of the Karangasem kingdom, the residents of Seraya Village were assigned as soldiers to attack the Seleparang kingdom on the island of Lombok.
Because at that time the people of Seraya were known to be strong and tough and had invulnerable knowledge, they were made the vanguard to attack the Seleparang kingdom, so that the Seleparang kingdom could be controlled by the Karangasem kingdom.

The soldiers of Seraya Village, whose chivalrous spirit is still burning even though they have won, finally fight with their own friends using makeshift tools of war. Along with this incident, the game Gebug Ende emerged, which has existed until now.
